Taurus Healthcare Green Impact

Sustainability at Nelson House

At Taurus Healthcare, we recognise that healthcare organisations have an important role to play in protecting the environment and supporting healthier communities. As part of this commitment, Nelson House has joined the Green Impact for Health 2026 programme.

Green Impact for Health provides a practical framework to help healthcare organisations identify opportunities to reduce their environmental impact and introduce sustainable ways of working.

Our Approach

Taking part in the programme gives us the opportunity to review how we use resources across the building and identify areas where small changes can make a positive difference. Throughout the year, we will be looking at how we can:

·       Reduce unnecessary waste.

·       Improve recycling and reuse opportunities.

·       Use energy more efficiently.

·       Encourage environmentally responsible working practices.

·       Support staff wellbeing.

·       Reduce our overall carbon footprint.

What We've Already Started

Since purchasing Nelson House, we have already introduced a number of measures aimed at reducing energy consumption and promoting sustainability. These include:

·       Installing hot water boilers in both kitchen areas, replacing the need for multiple kettles.

·       Using large hot water flasks for meetings and events to minimise energy use.

·       Introducing energy-saving reminder stickers throughout the building.

·       Displaying awareness posters to encourage staff to switch off lights and equipment when not in use.

·       Carrying out audits of lighting and electrical equipment to better understand our energy usage.

·       Installing LED lighting and sensor lighting in low usage areas.

·       Replaced service delivery cars from diesel to hybrid.

Looking Ahead

As this is our first year participating in Green Impact for Health, we are keen to build a strong foundation for future sustainability work. We will continue to explore practical and achievable ways to improve our environmental performance while maintaining high-quality services for patients and supporting our staff.

We look forward to sharing our progress over the coming months and demonstrating how simple changes can contribute to a more sustainable future.

Together, we can make a positive difference for our organisation, our community and the environment.
