New video helps patients understand their GP practice

Herefordshire General Practice has released a new video that aims to increase patient awareness of the range of services available to them via their GP surgery.

The video entitled ‘Help Us Help You’ features local healthcare professionals explaining how practices operate with a team of professionals including specialist nurses, physiotherapists, social prescribers, clinical pharmacists and dietitians, amongst others. It also includes information on how practices operate and the day-to-day responsibilities being faced by GP surgeries. The film urges patients to share details of their call with surgery receptionists in order that they may be directed to the most appropriate healthcare professional for their particular needs.

Dr Mike Hearne, GP and Managing Director of Herefordshire’s GP Federation, is one of the healthcare professionals featured in the film. He says:

"In creating the video we are hoping that patients will understand how best to access the care they need from their surgery – which may not always be provided by their GP.

"We are very fortunate in Herefordshire as all 19 GP surgeries work closely together to provide a number of options for patients. These include the opportunity for remote consultations by telephone or video, which many patients welcome for their convenience. They sit alongside more traditional face-to-face appointments with healthcare practitioners and we are also able to offer evening and weekend appointments to patients at hubs located throughout the county.

“We are always striving to provide the best possible, around-the-clock healthcare for patients, working with our partners from across the health and care system and within the resources that are available to us.”

The video is available to view by following this link (opens in Vimeo).
